Advertising with The Insider

We chose to advertise in The Insider as it’s the only media in Adelaide to reach the overwhelming proportion of international students in a direct and credible way. The quality of the publication is first class and as a result we believe wastage is very low. The students value the information and many walk into our clinic with The Insider in hand.

Every year, Insider Publishing offers advertising space within  The Insider - The International Student Guide. There are currently two editions of the guide in production in Australia, the 2010 Adelaide edition and the 2010 Melbourne edition. If you think your business could benefit from reaching the extremely lucrative, yet largely un-tapped international student market in Adelaide and/or Melbourne, this is the most direct and cost-effective way of doing so.

Why the international student market

  • Adelaide has one of the highest growth rates for international students in the country. In 2008, according to Australian Education International (AEI), 27,748 international students chose SA for their studies. This is a 19.4% growth from the previous year.
  • In Melbourne, the sheer number of international students is simply staggering, with 161,625 calling Melbourne home in 2008. This was a 22.4% increase from the year before! In fact, Victoria has a 29.7% market share of the international student market in Australia.
  • In both states international education is the largest service export.
  • The international student market is now worth just under $700 million to the State economy of South Australia and just under $4 billion in Victoria

As the newly arriving students will be reading The Insider within the first few months of their studies, The Insider positions businesses favourably in the minds of students who have no previous knowledge of the city. It allows businesses to establish themselves in the international student market while the students are still discovering the city.

This un-tapped market continually grows in Adelaide, while more businesses realise its lucrative potential. 2010 is the year to target the international student market. Be quick, advertising space is limited for the two  Insider 2010 editions.

What is The Insider?

The Insider is a guide book designed specifically for international students who want to enjoy their new study city. Currently, international students struggle to socially adapt to new cities, often resulting with students clinging to their own ethnic groups, rarely meeting local students and rarely getting out and about. The Insider is a guide written by local and international students who have studied in Adelaide and Melbourne for years. The guide covers everything from shopping, cafés, nightlife, eating out, adventure, festivals and other useful information (accomodation help, buying a car, finding a job, different courses, public transport etc.). This free, annual guide aims to bridge the gap between local and international students and allow for an enjoyable period of study for international students.

Distribution

12 500 copies of The Insider are carefully distributed in Adelaide and 20 000 in Melbourne every year through:

  • Universities
  • TAFEs
  • Colleges
  • Selected businesses with large international student markets
  • Open Days (orientation weeks, expos, buddy programs)
  • Student accommodation facilities
  • International student support centres
  • Airport (Adelaide only)
  • South Australian Tourism Office (Adelaide only)

Such a groundbreaking publication has aroused strong local interest and support. Education staff all over Adelaide
continue to recommend The Insider and students use it for months while they settle in. We hope the same will happen in Melbourne! The book will be published early March every year, in time for the first wave of international student arrivals. The book will be distributed until March the following year.
